Brand Loyalty vs. Like Whoah

I am a brand loyalist to the bitter end, no amount of 13 year old odd future fan boys will tarnish supreme's reputation in my mind. When i decide that a brand is not worth my time or money, it is banished to a terrible land, left wide open to vicious stabs by yours truly courtesy of disqus. There are many things that can cause this to happen: uninspired artistic direction or design, bad quality/production, poor cuts, etc. One brand that has been vanished to this scorched hell scape is YMC, or YouMustCreate. Out the gate i didn't trust this brand due to its horribly obnoxious name, but a few of its classic, workwear inspired staples lured me in. I ended up buying two pieces from them over the years from online sources. Both ended being made of bottom of the line fabrics and trims, had terrible cuts, and were made in china; making their price point simply outrageous. I thought i would never even look twice at a ymc garment again, then i saw this. Does my love for camel camo overshadow my hate for ymc. At this point i dont know, my fingers on the trigger, but i'm not exactly sure where i'll shoot.

Sully: Carrier

The new album by sully has been on repeat the last couple days. Although ive been playing alot of heavier things lately, this cd reminded why i love 2step/bass more than anything else. Beautiful sampling, creative and innovative use of synths and percussion, and just the right amount of bass in all the right places. Check these joints out, and go grab the whole thing on beatport or boomkat.

Personal Style

Personal style is something that has suffered a huge blow in the internet age. People go around trying to imitate lookbooks, or try to buy their way into looking good, but have no idea how to put an outfit together. You would think with the boundless information at our fingertips these days, people would be more inspired than ever, but i certainly cant see it. You used to be able to experience peoples musical and artistic influences in the way they dress, but i feel like those types are a dying breed.
This breed isnt dead though,
so i compiled a few images ive come across of people who look good, while also being themself. Continue on the next page.

ed: dont expect anything mind altering, i had to find these images in 20 minutes.

Follow Their Voice Mission Statement

My goal for this blog is to create a blog i would have like to read when i was in high school. It is meant to give an insight to all factions of the art world, in an attempt to introduce and interest readers in something which they might not encounter at other information sources. It is meant to be a sort of launch pad of knowledge for you to further explore.

Gilbert & George

Gilbert and George recently sat down with the website The Talks, and although ive always been a fan, one passage i read really made me look at the two artists in a whole new away. This is why reading things is still important!

Do you believe that a true artist has to be poor?

Gilbert: We are still poor.

You probably are not.

Gilbert: We are, very. It’s simple, we only pay ourselves a salary. We have a company and we have a salary where we get very little money, only like forty thousand pounds a year.

And the rest you invest into your art?

Gilbert: The rest we spend making shows. We never have anything left over. We did big shows in China and we paid for it; we did big shows in Russia and we paid for it. We also did a big catalogue that we subsidized for 300 thousand pounds.

So would you say that this freedom from materialism is a conscious personal decision in order to remain flexible?

Gilbert: I mean, why do we need money? We don’t have babies, we don’t have bicycles, we don’t have a car, and we don’t have a mobile phone.

George: We don’t have a holiday house, we don’t have a yacht – we don’t have anything. We need very little for ourselves.

Moving Images.

Heres a couple great videos from the fashion world.
1. co s/s 2012 by Thomas Bangalter
Thomas Bangalter, of Daft Punk fame, is obviously most well known for his music. He is no slouch on the visual end though, as seen in his full length film Electroma, and once again showcased in this gorgeous, emotion soaked short film for the company co.

Co SPRING / SUMMER 2012 directed by Thomas Bangalter from Co Collections on Vimeo.

2.Into the Wild in Givenchy
This is just a great behind the scenes look into my favorite high fashion house.

Top 5: Ingmar Bergman

Ive been certifiably obsessed with ingmar bergman for quit a few years now. I know it can seem daunting to foray into a directors back catalogue, and since ive seen the vast majority of his films, i thought ide compile of few of his films which are guaranteed to make an impact on anyone with a soul.
1. Hour of the Wolf

2. Persona

3.Fanny and Alexander

4. Cries and Whispers

5. Wild Strawberries

Movie Mondays

The Hit, Dir: Stephen Frears
I only discovered this british director recently, which is a shame. His gritty looks into the underbelly of British life in the 80's are filled with fascinating character studies, and offer a beautiful insight into many different walks of life. This particular outting is a gangster film which delves into our notions of what is good and bad.

We Live in Public, Dir: Ondi Timoner
This is quite simply the most unbelievable documentary ive ever seen. There were whole segments of this film where my jaw was on the floor. I truly connected with the antagonist of this film, and i think anyone who considers them self a creative person would as well. If you have any interest in the direction of Humanity, YOU MUST see this film.

Heartbeats, Dir: Xavier Dolan
This is a gorgeous little movie which succeeds primarily because there is almost no one who cant relate to one of the characters in this film. Its a movie about love, and heart break, and its a very enjoyable viewing experience.
