Artist Spotlight: Leonora Carrington

Sadly, another fantastic artist passed away this week. At the age of 94, Leonora Carrington passed away in Mexico City from pnuemonia related complications. Not often brought up amongst the more well known names in surrealism (unless, much like Dorothea Tanning, when in relation to Max Ernst), but i happen to think thats a big mistake. I love her dark northern renaissance inspired take on surrealism, and i think you will too. R.I.P.

Streetwise

I cant even lie, this is one of the scariest, gritty documentaries i have ever seen. You imagine these kinds of things happening in somalia, liberia, sudan, etc, but its always a shock to see just how horribly some people have it in our own countries borders. I grew up hearing stories about being a runaway on the streets of seattle, but i had no idea it was like this, it makes me very thankful i made it to the physical realm in the first place.

Item Review: Burgus Plus Chino

After a long search, i finally settled on these Burgus Plus joints for my new heavy ware chinos. Let me just say, these are the best chinos ive ever come in contact with. They are heavyweight and crispy, they are very comfortable and have a great sheen to them, and the fit is at the perfect intersection between slim and regular. Theyre the rare kind of chino that actually look better with some use. You do have to create a rakuten account, but if you email them they will ship them without a proxy. They came out to around 180$ and are much nicer than any pair you can get stateside for that amount of money.

Styling

Heres a few photos i snapped for a styling class project, obviously Supreme was the center point and Twin Peaks definitely provided some inspiration. Although the pictures are not in order, it follows a timeline of a murder and the attempts to discard evidence.

Pictures on Thizz

1. Jun & Rope Archives
Jun & Rope is a now deceased fashion label that made some outstanding commercials during the 1970's. Directed by legends such as Richard Avedon and Helmut Newton, each ad in this compilation has its own fantastic identity.

2. David Lynch - Rabbits
This video clip incapsulates everything that is amazing about David Lynch, specifically his ability to turn an every day situation into something incredibly bizarre.

3. Hans Richter & Marcel Duchamp - Anemic Cinema
Hans Richter was a pioneering video artist, and Marcel Duchamp was the theeeeee pioneering artist. What more do i got to say to your bitch ass to make you watch this?

Movie Mondays

Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky, Dir: Jan Kounen
I finally watched this film recently, and despite some negative reviews, i found it to be a beautiful viewing experience. It doesn't seem like a film i would tell my never-to-be-born children to watch, but it was rewarding from an art and set direction point of view..

A Short Film about Killing, Dir: Krzysztof Kieslowski
One of my all time favorite films, Krzysztof executes his films with brutal realism, to the point where you feel you are watching others lives take place. This can be a very disturbing experience, as most of his work centers on the less than cheery side of things. Although he might be most know for his Decalogue series, this is to me his most moving piece of work.

The Sacrifice, Dir: Andrei Tarkovsky
Sci-fi is my all time favorite genre, and Andrie Tarkovsky has made two of the all time best of that genre in Solaris and STALKER. I'de like to bring your attention to one of his films i've seen more recently though, which is The Sacrifice. Often times when average people call movies slow, it means they are good. Many films are too frantically paced to really transfer emotion in this day and age. With that said, this movie is slow, but its purposefully languid pace is essential to the feeling of the film, and the experience more than pays off in the end.

SASQUATCHfabrix

My fashion timeline has been pretty easy to categorize: streetwear >>>> workwear; both of which are extremely formulaic sects of the industry. Recently though, as i've mentioned on this blog before, my taste for the borderline outlandish is growing. One brand that i really feel is a good reflection of my taste evolution, is SASQUATCHfabrix. Theres very few full looks i would consider wearing, but alot of the signature pieces would make a great addition to my wardrobe. I am upset though, because they beat me to the punch as far as using vintage japanese skeletal graphics, which i've been sourcing the last few months (pictured above).

heres this seasons lookbook.
