Movie Mondays

1.That Obscure Object of Desire - Luis Bunuel
Ive been a huge fan of Luis Bunuel since i was first introduced to him through my exploration of surrealism in high school. Some of his films might be too conceptual or arty for some, but this film, one of his best in my opinion, is a very solid, entertaining experience. Also, anyone whos ever had to deal with a significant other who is slightly mental (and who isnt), will surely find parts of the film extremely relatable.

2. Fish Tank - Andrea Arnold
This movie, as pretty much every film festival jury agreed, is beautiful. It has a fantastic sense of honesty throughout, and seems to almost move to a rhythm as it unfolds. Its a slice of life film that really pulls you in and will definitely give you a perspective on a lifestyle that you might not be familiar with.

3. Cruising - William Friedkin
William Friedkin, of French Connection fame, directed this often overlooked dark thriller. What i think sets this apart from all the other murder mystery films, is its sense of authenticity. Filmed in all the real s&m clubs of late 1970's new york, you feel like a fly on the wall of a crazy culture which has since moved deep underground. Its massively entertaining and features a great performance from Al Pacino.
