Just Picasso

I got a chance to see the new Picasso exhibit at the DeYoung today. I was excited, because i hadnt seen the full spectrum of his years since ive had a full functioning mental. I was blown away, he truly is the most talented, innovative artist of all time. The sheer output, and diversity of his work made me feel downright shameful about how little ive created in my life comparatively. They didnt allow photos, and many of my favorites, which were small pen and ink drawings, dont come across through picture, but here are a few of the standouts i jotted down throughout the show.

1.Le Repast Frugal

2.Woman with Catarac

3. The Acrobat (of which i picked up a very affordable miniature print)

4. The Supplicant

Too Many Docs, too many docs.

For all these, follow the youtube links for all the parts.
BBC: Once Upon a Time in NY-
Great documentary about the birth of all the music everyone should love. You may think you know all about the velvet underground, fab 5 freddy, blondie, etc, but this doc has some amazing footage and interviews.
80 Blocks from Tiffany's -
Famous documentary about gangs in the 1970's Bronx. Its very interesting to see the gangster mentality prevalent today played out along side such different music and garb.

1989: Summer of Rave -
Documentary about the birth of house/techno which also offers an interesting insight into the life and times which birthed the movement. A truly feel good viewing.
Jungle Documentary -
Interesting if you like jungle, or have a general interest in history.

[very few] Capsule Highlights

As always, the Capsule shows are a busy part of the year for a number of blogs that i check. It is slowly losing cool points to Pitti, but it is still very relevant in the world of contemporary fashion. That said, i was blown away by how little interested me in all the vast Capsule coverage i absorbed. Almost everything seemed to be coming from one master brand, seriously to the point where the Mark McNairy line and the Monitaly line could have easily been from one company. That said, they both had some nice, very-wearable pieces, but the amount of spice was at all time low. Unfortunately, they all tried to make an impact with the same sudo-floral and animal prints, which you saw everywhere. Of course though, i love animal prints, so the Mark McNairy Zebra boot and the Yuketen Snakeskin chukka are most buys, i also quit liked this jacket from the brand Creep, which i traditionally have been very underwhelmed with.

Sophnet at Firmament

Sophnet, in my humble opinion, is one of the worlds absolute best brands. Each season they keep things fresh and interesting, you can count on the fact you wont bump into any other idiot wearing it, and the quality is absolutely top notch. Follow their Voice favorites Roden Gray and Haven carry soph within the Americas, but it was Firmament in Berlin that got the pick of the litter. Heres two items which are on the top of my list, so dont buy them.

Now turn off the videos sound,

I cant decide which i prefer. If one person actually does this, this whole blogging thing is totally worth it.

Artist Spotlight: Tierney Gearon

Ide like to turn the spotlight on a veteran American photographer. Like many artists, not many knew who she was until her art became publicly controversial, and while it certainly is, it only serves to bolster her incredible talent. Photographers with voyeuristic tendencies always seem to cause more outrage than others, and voyeurism is definitely a strong element in her work. Each piece almost alludes to something disturbing going on, but never really gives you a clear picture of just what the fuck is happening. Anyway, enjoy and explore Tierney Gearon.

Beaverly Hills

This might not be the most mind blowing music, in fact its quite simple. What it is though, is nice to listen to, and perfect for summer. You really cant go wrong with classic uk funky vibes when your in a good mood. Be the first in your town to fuck with Beaverly Hills. Yes, it's a stupid fuckin name, but theyre French, so they might be confused.
