Movie Mondays

Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky, Dir: Jan Kounen
I finally watched this film recently, and despite some negative reviews, i found it to be a beautiful viewing experience. It doesn't seem like a film i would tell my never-to-be-born children to watch, but it was rewarding from an art and set direction point of view..

A Short Film about Killing, Dir: Krzysztof Kieslowski
One of my all time favorite films, Krzysztof executes his films with brutal realism, to the point where you feel you are watching others lives take place. This can be a very disturbing experience, as most of his work centers on the less than cheery side of things. Although he might be most know for his Decalogue series, this is to me his most moving piece of work.

The Sacrifice, Dir: Andrei Tarkovsky
Sci-fi is my all time favorite genre, and Andrie Tarkovsky has made two of the all time best of that genre in Solaris and STALKER. I'de like to bring your attention to one of his films i've seen more recently though, which is The Sacrifice. Often times when average people call movies slow, it means they are good. Many films are too frantically paced to really transfer emotion in this day and age. With that said, this movie is slow, but its purposefully languid pace is essential to the feeling of the film, and the experience more than pays off in the end.
