Top 5: Spring 2012 Menswear Collections

Fashion month recently ended and the focus has been mainly on the womenswear collections. The menswear showings were pretty stellar and these are the five collections that stood out:

Custo Barcelona

Brothers Custo and David Dalmau established Custo Barcelona in the mid 90s. Since then their brand has gained a reputation for being bold, flashy, and very colorful. Their Spring 2012 menswear collection didn’t disappoint. Creative Director Custo Dalmau created garments with 3D prints that when sold will come with 3D glasses. The kaleidoscope-esque collection also featured a lot of mesh tanks, printed pants, and flannel shirts.

Jeremy Scott

Jeremy Scott is an outlandish fashion designer with a flair for the eccentric. He is known for his eclectic style and his designs create quite a stir on the runway. His Spring 2012 collection was inspired by The Beverly Hillbillies; it had an air of The Clampetts and Daisy Duke. Models were clothed in overalls, bandannas, and chaps. His menswear collection featured plenty of fringe, denim, and western prints.

J.W. Anderson

J.W. Anderson is a British fashion designer whose Spring 2012 collection was his third showing at London Fashion Week. His menswear collection was inspired by chromosomes and the inner workings of human genetics. He used the chemical structure of a double helix as design details. Anderson used paisley and other tribal prints to tie in the molecular theme. His collection was fairly simplistic and had a vibe that was modern with a vintage twist.

Libertine

Libertine was founded in 2000 by creative director Johnson Hartig, who uses his travels as inspiration for his designs. His Spring 2012 collection was a carefree showing, with models smiling, skipping, and carrying drinks down the runway. The collection was mainly black, white, and grey with flashes of glitter. The collection was a mixture of tailored pieces and t-shirts. Hartig included a lot of screen-printing; there were pieces emblazoned with circles, flowers, and stripes.

N.Hoolywood

N. Hoolywood was established in 2000 by head designer Daisuke Obana. Obana’s design aesthetic is rooted in vintage fashion, taking inspiration from the 70s and 80s. The Spring 2012 collection was inspired by iconic directors from the 1950s and beyond: Alfred Hitchcock, Otto Preminger and Martin Scorsese. Images from classic films were referenced in Obana’s designs. The creepy eye from Vertigo printed on shirts, fedoras inspired by Ocean’s Eleven and the classic quiff hairstyle from West Side Story were present and added to the vintage vibe of the collection.

DJEED

This gives a detailed rundown of Matthew Barneys new project, 'Ancient Evening.' There is no doubt the man is staggeringly genius, and this mythology influenced body of work might be my favorite yet. Read the whole thing, and you will be blown away.

Dipped

Sorry for the lack of posts this week. I moved and was without internet for numerous days. Now i'm settled in though, and i'm celebrating that fact with the introduction of a new feature here at Follow Their Voice: Dipped. If there is one thing i've learned from the menswear coolguy blogosphere, it's that people love seeing what other people wear. So every week make sure to check back and see outfits that are meticulously styled from the most limited edition of japanese garms! Maybe if you follow Dipped every week you will eventually learn how to dress exactly like me, which is the undeniable pinnacle of male fashion. yup, enjoy.

My Boo

I don't think i've had the chance to properly address just how much i love bjork. She literally is the only god i acknowledge. Her new album Biophilia is so fantastic it causes me the best kind of pain. Here is track 2 off the new album, which i would gladly cosign as the best song ever made.

More Bape!

Bape is comin' with some fire as of late. Two new flannels, camo and plaid respectively, both out here slaying folks. Pick them up in their online store.
