Nasir Mazhar is relatively new to the fashion game, but you wouldn't know it from the spring/summer 12 collection he showed this february at London fashion week. Nasir's new collection couldn't be more timely, because the fashion world was slowly molded to the vision he has had since the beginning. All his collections are mainly influenced by club culture, specifically, 90's club culture. Meaning his clothes are a visual accompaniment to soundsystems, ragga, garage, etc, he even had UK underground Mc's Shystie and Lioness spitting during his show. Due to the prominent force tumblr has achieved over the fashion world, now 16 year old fashionistas with pink hair are dictating trends, trends that align perfectly with the themes in Nasir Mazhar's collections. This collection specifically has a very 90's rave feel to it. The clothes themselves are very similar to what Jamaican immigrants were wearing in 1970/80's London; Silk shirts, prints, mesh top, combat boots. Beyond that though, the beauty and accessory elements are ready for the club. Girls had bright blue and red makeup on, pigtails wrapped up with bright beads, etc. The accessories fit with the beauty elements perfectly. Their is bright pink boas, leopard print back packs, brightly colored silk wraps, antique sony headphones and furry alien antennas. The highlight of the collection for us though, is the male accessories, specifically, the Air Jordan mask. Air Jordans have been accepted in every underground culture in the world since their debut, and it was incredible to see its classic characteristics warped into the tried and true indicator of a hardcore raver, the face mask.
